Trump Says Singapore Summit Is `One-Time Shot' for Kim Jong Un

President Trump predicted Saturday that he will know nearly immediately when meeting Kim Jong Un whether the North Korean dictator is serious about negotiating a nuclear deal, suggesting his intuition is enough to size up the leader of the worlds most opaque authoritarian regime.

He has also dangled the prospect of Kim Jong Un visiting Washington if the meeting goes well.

As far as we know, his despot father only traveled out of the country by train, and rarely at that, because of fears of assassination.

When he previously appeared at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea with the same Donald Trump lookalike, he was escorted out by security after waving and dancing in front of North Korea´s cheerleaders.

She said she hoped the high-level discussions between Mr Kim and other world leaders will lead to greater engagement and encourage more institutions to form connections with North Koreans.

Their appearance comes days before a summit between the real leaders in the city-state.

There's wild speculation about how Kim will perform on the world stage: Will he bring, for instance, his armored limousine and his dozen well-armed, well-muscled bodyguards to march alongside his rolling fortress in a half-sprint? How long will it take to figure out if they're serious?

He appeared at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics alongside a Donald Trump lookalike, and the duo are set to take part in an alternative summit ahead of Tuesday's meeting between the U.S. president and Kim.

This would further reinforce the softer image Kim Jong Un has enjoyed in South Korea after the inter-Korean summit.

Singapore's The Straits Times reported earlier this month that the Singapore government declared that four black BMW sedans with armored bodies that can withstand gunshots, explosives and grenades were exempt from certain traffic rules through June 30.

But Trump - for whom a major accomplishment would bolster his position ahead of midterm elections in November - baffled observers when he said he did not think he had to prepare "very much" for the summit.

An Il-76 cargo plane that accompanied Kim Jong Un on his most recent visit to China departed Pyongyang on Sunday morning, bound for Singapore.

Singapore was selected as the host site because it has significant experience in staging major global events, including a summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and then-Taiwanese President Ying-jeou in 2015, the first such meeting in almost seven decades.

Why's he taking the risk?

"I'm glad to say that as of now, it's all systems go".

USA defence and intelligence officials have assessed the North to be on the threshold of having the capability to strike anywhere in the continental US with a nuclear-tipped missile - a capacity that Trump and other US officials have said they would not tolerate. "This should be a matter between US and South Korea". At the root of this desire lies their central concern: "regime survival", he wrote. He's got an opportunity, if you look into history, very few people have ever had.

"The DPRK gets a bad reputation particularly as a result of the western media and what they say on TV".

"POTUS ran against experts - the "eggheads" - and believes that rebalancing our policies on trade, defense spending, security, etc., simply makes sense", a White House official told Axios at the time. For years Trump has complained about the US bearing too much of the burden for other countries' security, and as president he's sought to pull troops from Syria and other locations.
