Toure, who also played under Guardiola at Barcelona before the Catalan sold him to City, pointed to the treatment his compatriot Wilfried Bony received when Guardiola arrived at City.

"The stars aligned." numerous figures behind Barcelona's success under Guardiola have since moved on, with Begiristain joining him at Manchester City and Laporta moving along for Sandro Rosell in 2012.

When asked about Toure's comments on Spanish show TV3, Guardiola revealed what he really thought.

When the subject was brought up, Guardiola was reserved in his assessment, telling This Is Premier League: "I would say we made the best year in the Premier League ever". He never told me face to face'.

As relayed by Fay, Toure's agent, Dimitri Seluk, has backed the allegations made against Guardiola by his client.

"I had the time of my life there".

"You know, Guardiola can not be called a dog", he told Sport24.

During his eight years at the Etihad, Toure helped the club win three Premier League titles - playing a major role in the 2011/12 triumph which represented the club's first league win since 1968.

"We are the best?" said the City boss to the Daily Mirror. It was a fantastic age where I was taking on the world and we took it on, with some incredible players, a young president, Txiki.

At Barcelona, the duo won the UEFA Champions League in 2009, with Toure impressing in the final.

"It was a generation of brutal players and the best player in the world".

City smashed club and divisional records as they stormed to the Premier League title and racked up an unprecedented 100 points in 2017-18.
