Trump calls for elimination of tariffs, end to US being world's 'piggy bank'

Trump says 'let Russia back in' as he heads to G-7 summit

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and G7 leaders Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May, France's President Emmanuel Macron, Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and U.S. President Donald Trump discuss the joint communique following a breakfast meeting on the second day of the G7 meeting in Charlevoix city of La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada, June 9, 2018.

Members of Parliament gave unanimous consent for a motion backing Canadian steel and aluminium, hit by U.S. tariffs, as well as the supply management system that supports key agriculture sectors, and gave a standing ovation for the government response to the Trump administration's verbal attacks on Trudeau.

Donald Trump's trade adviser has labelled Canadian premier Justin Trudeau a back-stabber unworthy of the USA president's time after the acrimonious end to the G7 summit.

Internationally, one European diplomat says the rest of the G7 will carry on despite the president's online attack against Trudeau and his decision to pull out of the final G7 communique.

And Roland Paris, a former foreign policy adviser to Trudeau, jabbed on Trump on Twitter: "Big tough guy once he's back on his airplane".

His comments set the scene for renewed clashes between Mr Trump and other world leaders at a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit next month.

In view of threatened U.S. tariffs on vehicle imports, which would particularly affect Germany, Grenell said that he was a "big auto fan" and knew how important the industry was.

In an appearance on CNN's "State of the Union," Kudlow argued that Trudeau's critique amounted to a betrayal of the G7, as well as the U.S.

There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door. "We would hope that the United States would similarly honour the commitments that they have made".

Trump refused to sign a joint agreement with US allies at the end of the summit and threatened to cut off trade with them unless deals were renegotiated.

Trudeau said he would continue to stand up for Canadian dairy producers and the country's supply management system.

The Canadian tariffs target $264 million in Minnesota products headed to Canada, adding $35 million to the cost of exports.

Following the media avail, a reporter asks if Trudeau is disappointed that Trump was cutting out early to prepare for his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"[Trudeau] really kind of stabbed us in the back", Kudlow said.

"I've never seen language like this, least of all from subordinates of the president directed at the prime minister of their greatest friend and ally", Mulroney said. "It will start first of all to hurt USA workers".

Mr. Trudeau's office responded to Mr. Trump's tweets accusing the Canadian leader of "false statements" on Saturday, saying that the Prime Minister said nothing during the G7 summit that he had not said previously.

Trump contends that other countries "have been taking advantage of the United States on trade".

He said: "If I can get the president to actually realise that what he's doing is counterproductive for his own goals as well, perhaps we can move forward in a smarter way".

Minnesota trade experts say the Trump tariffs set a bad precedent.

He added: "That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did and that comes right from Air Force One".
