Tyson Fury clowned his way to victory in Manchester
Back in action for the first time since defeating Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015, Fury showed occasional glimpses of his talent in an otherwise forgettable fight. In one clip, men can be seen hurling themselves over chairs as the brawl, which unfolded during the second round of the boxing match, escalated.
Fury weighed in at 19st 10lbs at a good-natured weigh-in on Friday, making him a full four stone and nine pounds heavier than Seferi, whom he whisked off his feet and cradled in his arms as if to labour the point.
Seferi (23-2), a career cruiserweight, tried in vain to reach Fury's head with sluggish right uppercuts.
But he has been careful to avoid focusing too much on his future prospects in the build-up to Saturday's fight, in which the small but willing Seferi is unlikely to detain him for long.
The former IBF, WBA and WBO champion was absent from the ring due to a lengthy wrangle over an alleged doping offence, which Fury denied committing.
Nevertheless, the manner of his win was rendered relatively redundant when compared with the battle he has had to shed more than eight stones as well as winning a much-publicised battle with depression.
Fury’s opponent quit on his stool
Warren could not reveal if he had found an opponent for Fury for the August date, but his fighter did request someone taller than Seferi.
In his exile, Fury has not lost his off-beat sense of humour and it is another trait that appeals to fight fans and beyond. The question is: what happens next?
"If I can't win against Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Sefer Seferi and whoever else wants to fight, then I will say I never was any good and I should never have been boxing".
"I wouldn't mind going back to the Leeds Arena, have another nutty night there, defend the title and then possibly see about fighting Carl after that". His quest for legendary status won't be bolstered by knocking out Seferi on Saturday; it's Joshua and Wilder who hold the belts and the prestige he seeks. Fury has compared himself to Sugar Ray Leonard, while Davison prefers Muhammad Ali.
The 29-year-old is adamant his evident success in shaping up for a ring return will increase his popularity levels and, more importantly, serve as an inspiration for others who may be going through similar health issues.
He's been to the top before suffering a fall and sparring partner Tom Little believes the Lancastrian has learnt from his mistakes.
