Creepy New Uber Algorithm Knows When You’re Drunk

Blokes like these could soon find if very difficult to get an Uber if they behave badly

Uber will soon know if you're drunk and could refuse to pick you

The patent, which is dated June 7 with the US Patent and Trademark Office, is titled "Predicting User State Using Machine Learning", and it hints that such a system may be used to accommodate riders who are outside of their "normal behavior" state.

Uber will also potentially modify "pickup or drop-off locations to areas that are well lit and easy to access" when it has determined the user's state is "unusual".

The patent mentions the app keeping track of how many typos a user makes, how accurate they are when (attempting) to hit the various links and buttons, their walking speed, and how long it takes to request a ride. It also calculates the time the rider has interacted with the Uber app.

A new Uber patent would use AI to tell if passengers are drunk.

On 7th June, Uber the ride-hailing giant announced that it has filed for a patent that can identify "user's state" with algorithm tools.

As such, and we're spit-balling ideas here, the driver could refuse to pick up a drunk passenger opting to go after teetotallers instead. Uber reportedly wants to pair drunk passengers with Uber drivers that can handle them.

Uber is preparing to patent a system that will be recognized as potential passengers.

'It could mean that they offer different pricey for drunk passengers, which means Uber could take advantage of a users state to charge them more'.

The patent application also indicates that the Uber service may change based on the outcome of the data analysis.

Uber claims that many drunk riders find difficulty in getting their home and meanwhile haphazardly book a taxi.

"Riders in a particularly unusual state may be matched with drivers who have special training or expertise, or may not be provided service at all", TechCrunch reports.
