Doc blames hotel mattress after Brazil's Marcelo exits World Cup game with back issue

The Kwese studio crew break down all the important statistics and point out what Brazil did better than their competition to finish atop Group E.

Marcelo had to leave Brazil's final group stage match against Serbia after just 10 minutes because of back stiffness.

It wasn't until a post-match interview by team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar that the reason for Marcelo's substitution was revealed.

"On top of this there is likely to be a lot of heat, humidity and so we have chose to start with Filipe". "Maybe the mattress on which he was sleeping in Moscow was softer and this can cause a back problem, we will see how it progresses", it was stated by the doctor.

Lasmar said Marcelo would be evaluated again after Sunday's training, adding that "we're optimistic that he'll be able to be ready for the game". But [the injury] happened because he made a rotation movement and felt uncomfortable after.

Brazil will take on Mexico in their last 16 match next Monday at 3pm in the Samara Arena, with fans looking forward to seeing Marcelo back in action, given he doesn't wake up on the wrong side of the bed again.

Marcelo has missed games for Real Madrid due to muscle problems in both of the last two seasons.

Tite said he is seeking a similar performance from his team to the one that saw them account for Serbia. Let's hope he has a speedy recovery, and that he gets back to action soon.
