The Trump administration created a "confirmation team" Monday to help the President's Supreme Court nominee make his or her way through Congress as liberal lawmakers vowed to fight the President's pick tooth and nail.
"The White House counsel told me that there have been a few additional potential nominees added to that list", Collins told ABC this morning. "But I think the president should not feel bound by that list and instead should seek out recommendations to ensure that he gets the best possible person".
Trump could have even more high court vacancies to fill, as Kennedy is one of four justices over the age of 70.
Collins has publicly stated that she won't vote in favor of a Supreme Court Justice nominee who is willing to overturn Roe v. Wade but also downplayed concerns that reversing the historic decision is under threat by the Trump administration.
Abortion is not the only key issue he worries about with a new Supreme Court justice.
"I would tell my pro-life friends: you can be pro-life and conservative, but you can also believe in stare decisis", he continued, referencing the "many different ways" the case has been upheld in court rulings over the years.
But the eventual nominee already faces a hurdle: Republicans hold a slim 51-49 majority in the Senate, and Sen.
"Someone who devotes that much time to writing a book on precedent, I think understands how important a principle that is in our judicial system", Collins said.
Mr. Trump said last weekend that he narrowed his choice to about five candidates, including two women.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) vowed Sunday to oppose any SCOTUS nominee who would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. Republican Senator Susan Collins of ME told CNN's State of the Union. In her view, Roe v. Wade is settled law, and she wanted someone on the court who would respect precedent.
Collins said her office does research and has discussions on a nominee's record, and she won't vote for someone with an activist record. Trump has said he plans to announce a nominee July 9. "I would like to see it overturned but I've always been that way".
John Oliver pulled a switcheroo on Sunday evening's "Last Week Tonight", pretending that there was a loophole Democrats could use to save the country from another right-wing justice that will kill Roe v. Wade, same-sex marriage and a slew of other progressive policies. But during his Senate confirmation hearing, he said he accepts Roe v. Wade as "the law of the land".

Trade Rumors: Offers For Kawhi Leonard Have Been 'Unacceptable'
Jason McIntyre believes that the Lakers halted on recruiting George once it was clear Kawhi Leonard would be available in a trade. With the Lakers seemingly bowing out (for now), that leaves the door wide open for the Clippers to make a run at Leonard.
