According to a new official Facebook blog post, the company is now notifying over 800,000 users that unwanted people may have seen posts on Facebook and Facebook Messenger, even if you'd proactively blocked those people from seeing your posts, between May 29 and June 5. "For example pictures shared with friends of friends".
Facebook keeps making mistakes that share your info - and this time it's with people you've explicitly blocked. "We know that the ability to block someone is important - and we'd like to apologize and explain what happened". While a person who was unblocked by this bug could not see content users shared with their friends, they could have seen things that were posted to a wider audience.
The software bug did not restore any severed friend connections at the social network, but someone who was blocked could have been able to reach out to a blocker on Messenger, according to Facebook. Also, the bug would have let these individuals re-add friends who had blocked them from their profile.
The bug would automatically unblock users that you may have blocked on Facebook, meaning they would be able to view some of your posts. Unblocked users have been blocked again. To be sure, the company's transparency and clear communication on this latest one is admirable, but you can see how it adds up to death by a thousand cuts if Facebook can't somehow turn things around when it comes to public perception.
