However, either way, it looks like Samsung will be launching three flagship smartphones in 2019, similar to Apple's expected plan to unveil three new iPhone models this year. This may mean that Samsung isn't too anxious about the low sales of this year's S9 models. The smartwatch, which will probably be called Galaxy Watch, is based on Wear OS and packs a 470mAh battery, a panel level package (PLP) chip, as well as a new UX interaction and blood pressure measurement system.

Competition from cheaper Chinese brands like Xiaomi Corp and Huawei have already seen Samsung lose market share in China and India, the world's top smartphone markets.

Analysts expect Samsung's smartphone sales to drop in the April-June quarter, following a more than two percent drop in the previous quarter, as consumers flock to cheaper models from Chinese rivals such as Xiaomi.

This is expected to be a drag on profit growth when the Korean conglomerate posts second quarter earnings on Friday. In fact, Apple should be in a worse place as smartphone sales dry up.

The average selling price of DRAM chips, which help devices perform multiple tasks, is forecast to climb 14.8 percent this year, research firm Gartner says.

Investors are growing increasingly concerned however about the prospect of an all-out trade war between China and the United States, and how this could impact major exporters like South Korea's tech champions.

This latest report comes from trusted Twitter leaker Ice Universe, who said the watch is set to come with Google's latest software and a 470mAh battery inside.
