Xbox One July Update Out Now, Adds FastStart And Groups

Xbox One's fast-loading feature rolls out today

Xbox One rolls out FastStart feature to speed up downloads

"FastStart works by identifying which files are needed to begin playing and prioritizes the download of those files first, enabling you to quickly jump into full-fidelity gameplay while the remainder of your title downloads in the background", said Major Nelson. Either way, this has made for a hilarious mistake to point out, especially since it's an Xbox-centric app with rewards localized to Microsoft customers.

Both Xbox and PlayStation include similar features which allow users to play your game when a certain amount of the game has been downloaded - in Xbox's case, it's called "ready to start". FastStart now applies to all English-language games in the Xbox Game Pass, including Fallout 4, Sea of Thieves, Elder Scrolls Online, and more. Your groups will appear under My Games and Apps, in Home, and in the Guide.

UI navigation has been enhanced with the ability to invoke the search dialog (even from the Dashboard) by pressing the Y button on your controller. The update will include "FastStart", which is a feature created to address one of the biggest frustrations of modern gaming: Being forced to wait for your titles to download before you can play them.

Also, Groups are finally available.

You can download the app for free here. In addition to an overall quality of life update for the service, improving stability, mouse and keyboard and multi-touch support have been added to to Mixer's Share Controller.

Fullscreen webcam broadcasting is now enabled for mixer streamers, and Microsoft recommends the following cameras to get the best results. You can take a close look at these improvements and more in the full release.

Announced at E3 2018, FastStart is part of Microsoft's July platform update that brings a number of small - but impactful - updates to the console.
