Immediately after he cleaned Miocic's clock to win the belt, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar stepped into the cage and shoved Cormier after "DC" called him out, setting the stage for a monstrous superfight down the road. The first was Conor McGregor, who accomplished the feat in late 2016.
But Cormier provided all the fireworks necessary with his demolition of Miocic, who had held the heavyweight belt for over two years. Just like that, he finished the winningest UFC heavyweight champion of all time.
White said that Lesnar is "free and clear" to do this fight and Lesnar is not going to do anything to piss Vince McMahon off.
Lesnar watched ringside as Cormier overcame a sharp Miocic before landing a devastating short right hook put Miocic down for the count.
In a sport where size definitely, matters, it's hard not to wonder whether there's any real way that Cormier is going to be able to overcome his size disadvantage when he steps into the octagon against Miocic on Saturday night in the main event at UFC 226. Though rumors have swirled about a potential fight between the two in November in NY, nothing was official at the time that Cormier called Lesnar to the Octagon, so Cormier may have simply been adding more fuel to the fire.
Cormier weighed 246 lbs., while Miocic weighed-in at only 242.5 lbs., so Miocic won't have a major weight advantage when they're in the clinch and leaning into one another. He was sacked up and excited for this fight.
