Beryl became the first hurricane of the Atlantic season Friday as the storm made its way to the Lesser Antilles, the National Hurricane Center said.
"Beryl is expected to move westward and eventually it's gonna run into wind shear and start to weaken as it reaches the Antilles", said Dave Loewenthal, forecaster with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C.
Although the storm is close to the USA the hurricane center doesn't expect any watches or warnings to be issued.
Intensity forecasts with tropical cyclones as tiny as Beryl are notoriously hard.
While the storm is expected to dissipate as it nears the southern Caribbean islands, rain and winds are expects.
Minor wind damage will also be possible very close to where the center of the hurricane tracks. Regardless of weakening, an increase in rain chances and gusty winds will occur for the Lesser Antilles followed by an increase in rain chances for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands early next week.
The system is moving west at 15 miles per hour and is expected to accelerate movement west to northwest over the weekend.
A separate storm could develop off the U.S. East Coast over the next few days, but isn't likely to directly impact land.
