Samsung’s biggest factory will be inaugurated in India today

Noida now has the largest mobile factory in the world

The Noida factory, which was set up in 1996, is one of the first global electronics manufacturing facilities set up in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korea President Moon Jae-in inaugurated a mobile phone manufacturing facility of Samsung Electronics in Noida on Monday.

Demand for new mobile phones is surging in India, helped in part by billionaire Mukesh Ambani offering US$23 4G feature phones, free voice services and cheap data plans.

Samsung said last year it will spend 49.2 billion rupees ($716.57 million) over three years to expand capacity at its Noida plant.

In 1997, the plant started manufacturing televisions, and in 2003, expanded to manufacturing refrigerators. Both leaders are visiting the facility adjoining New Delhi, according to India's ministry of external affairs. Smartphone companies have also been facing stiff competition from mobile operators such as Reliance Jio which is selling data-bundled devices at subsidized cost. "Apart from this, the company can also bring in export opportunity for Samsung to SAARC and other regions", Pathak told IANS. This will put Noida on top of cities across the world with the biggest mobile manufacturing plant. With the factory, Samsung now aims to produce 120 million of smartphones unit.

Prime Minister Modi speaking at the inaugural ceremony said that the new unit of Samsung will be a matter of pride for not just India but Uttar Pradesh and Noida. The charge, however, comes at a time when China's Xiaomi has taken leadership in the Indian smartphone market and has moved ahead of Samsung in market share. "With the new facility, Samsung is going to have an edge over its rivals", Singh noted.

Samsung is without a doubt the biggest name in the Android world, and so if you are considering purchasing a new phone, logic dictates you may be looking to pick up a phone made by the ...

This week Samsung is opening what it's calling the world's largest mobile phone factory in the the world's second largest smartphone market.
