Facebook A woman was attacked by this man at a park near Chicago because she was wearing a Puerto Rico flag shirt

In the video, the unidentified man screams at and harasses the woman because of her shirt, asking if she is a citizen and saying she should be wearing an American flag. Irizarry tries several times to explain to the man that Puerto Rico is actually a part of the United States, but in all of his returns to accost her, he does not appear to listen or understand this.

"We will be looking into this incident as our offices in D.C. are in contact with local and state authorities, demanding that this officer be expelled from the police force", Governor Ricardo Rosselló wrote on Twitter after the video went viral on Monday.

In the footage, the man-identified as 62-year-old Timothy Trybus-can be seen approaching Irizarry saying: "You should not be wearing that in the United States of America".

Irizarry, who was renting out the area for her birthday, flagged down a park police officer and asked for help. "Are you a United States citizen?" The man resumes his abuse, saying: "You're not American, if you were American you wouldn't wear that".

"Officer, I paid for a permit for this area", she also says.

She asks him to leave her alone and asks for an officer's help who is nearby but he does not intervene. She said the group politely complied but her Puerto Rico shirt appeared to act as a trigger to the man. The video shows a man angrily approaching a woman who is filming him as he yells "You're not gonna change us" while a nearby police officer stands by his auto and looks away as the distressed woman calls out for help. The unresponsive officer seen in the video was reassigned to desk duty pending his conduct review.

"No one should feel unsafe while visiting our preserves", Figel said.

Preckwinkle said she assured Nevares the officer's actions don't reflect Cook County's values. I am appalled, shocked & disturbed by the officer's behavior.

The woman in the video can be heard repeatedly asking the man who was harassing her to step back. "Can you please grab him?" to which he turns his head and walks in the opposite direction.

Irizarry filmed the video about a month ago, but it has gained recent traction and since been watched more than a million times.

"Well I guess you just never know", Irizarry responds.

Finally, multiple police cars pull up, responding to a separate incident, and a female officer informs the man he's intoxicated.

"After the incident, we immediately launched an investigation pursuant to our personnel policies into the response of our officer", it said, in a series of posts on Twitter. "You know that right?" "The United States of America is a nation that was built and thrives on diversity".

"This was an attack of an American citizen on another American citizen", he said. We are proud U.S. citizens. Those born there are USA citizens, although they can not vote in US presidential elections.

The Trump administration has received criticism for its treatment of Puerto Rico, particularly for its response after Hurricane Maria struck last September.
