Wimbledon Novak Djokovic into semi-finals after accusing umpire 'double standards'

Djokovic dodged a bullet

Novak Djokovic speaks out on narrowly escaping Wimbledon scheduling nightmare

In the middle of a quarterfinal clash against Japanese opponent Kei Nishikori, Djokovic grew increasingly frustrated that the second set was not going his way.

Rafael Nadal needed nearly five hours to beat Juan Martin del Potro and set up a Wimbledon semi-final with Novak Djokovic.

I would be happy to see them lifting the trophy.' In March, he had posted a photo with Croatian football stars Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic, writing on Instagram: 'Happy to meet nice guys and great players from Croatian National team.' Vladimir Djukanovic, a member of President Aleksander Vucic's Serbian Progressive Party, through a video, said that only an idiot could support Croatia.

Indignation that his aura of invincibility, so unmistakable when he won the French Open in 2016 to hold all the grand-slam events simultaneously and appeared to have a stranglehold on the men's game, has been shattered.

The 12-time major victor prevailed despite picking up two code violations and accusing umpire Carlos Ramos of "double standards".

"To be honest, I thought it was unnecessary to get a warning". I didn't harm the grass. Kei did the same in the fourth set but wasn't warned.

Coming back in the second set, Nishikori held his serve in a long first game and went on to break Djokovic after the Serb received a code violation for racket abuse, serving out to equalize at 1-1.

Djokovic secured that game with a forehand victor, then saved two game points on Nishikori's serve before converting his first match point with a forehand down the line.

"Do you think or not?"

"Double standards, my friend", screamed the former world number one.

After breaking Djokovic's first serve to get off to a promising start in the fourth set, Nishikori was immediately relinquished of his lead as Djokovic broke back once and then again.

Djokovic's mood was not improved by Ramos choosing not to punish Nishikori for imitating his earlier offence of bashing a racquet into the ground. "In the midst of emotions in a tough match, it happens".

But the 12th seed was not to be denied as he raced into the last four, hitting an impressive 40 winners on the way.

It will be Djokovic's first semifinal Wimbledon appearance since 2015.
