Her boyfriend, Charlie Rowley, 45, also fell ill on June 30 and remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

"This is shocking and tragic news", Neil Basu, of the UK's counterterrorism agency, said.

Dawn Sturgess, a mother of three, died on Sunday evening the Met said in a statement shortly before 10pm.

A post-mortem will be scheduled to take place in due course.

Theresa May said she was "appalled and shocked" by the death, which comes after the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury.

Although tests being carried out have not yet established if the nerve agent in this latest incident is linked to the attack on Sergei and Yulia Skripal police say "this remains our main line of enquiry".

The UK government previously blamed Russian Federation for the poisoning of the Skripals in March and say the nerve agent used was a type developed by Russian Federation. "The government is committed to providing full support to the local community as it deals with this tragedy".

He said public health advice was "not to pick up any odd items such as needles, syringes or unusual containers".

In addition to Sturgess and Rowley, 21 people have been examined by health experts over concerns they could have been exposed to the Novichok - eight police officers and staff, nine health care workers, one paramedic and three members of the public.

The couple were found unconscious at a house in Amesbury town of Wiltshire.

"Detectives are working as quickly and as diligently as possible to identify the source of the contamination, but this has not been established at this time", police said on Sunday.

Police are hunting for a contaminated container which they believe was handled by the pair, who were known drug users.

Mr Peskov said the investigation and what was happening in the Salisbury area was a British issue which had nothing to do with an upcoming summit between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.

The Kremlin has denied, as it did after attack on Skripal, any involvement with poisoning of Rowley and Sturgess, which it considers "deeply troubling", and called on British authorities not to incur "dirty political games" by relating Poisoning with case of Skripal.

It was not until the Wednesday, however, that the government's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory at Porton Down confirmed their exposure to Novichok.

Police said the investigation "into the attempted murders of the Skripals is ongoing as detectives continue to assess all the evidence available".

John Glen, the Conservative Party legislator for the region, said the new poisoning has threatened an economic rebound from the slowdown caused by the attack on the Skripals.
