With 2018 National Basketball Association free agency dying down, the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets chose to make moves to inject more life back into the offseason. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been announced.

Along with Lin, the Nets will give the Hawks a 2025 second-round pick and the right to swap picks in 2023, per to the report. It also gave the Nets' crowded backcourt additional breathing room, especially after the Nets also dealt Isaiah Whitehead to the Denver Nuggets in a separate transaction that immediately succeeded the Lin deal.

The Brooklyn Nets traded Lin on Thursday night to the Atlanta Hawks, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

As for the Nets, the Nets backcourt will now be mostly handled by Spencer Dinwiddie, D'Angelo Russell, and Caris LeVert.

The Hawks will be the seventh team for Lin, the undrafted former Harvard star who memorably broke out with the Knicks during his run of Linsanity in February 2012.

The trade with the Nuggets was a salary dump for Denver. Both are entering the final years of their contract. In 2016-17, he averaged 14.5 points and 5.1 assists per game.

Arthur, 30, got in just 30 contests in 2017-18, making one start.
