Sacha Baron Cohen Continues to Troll Sarah Palin

Sacha Baron Cohen pranks Sarah Palin for new show

The veteran journalist told The Hollywood Reporter that he was "interviewed" by a man in a wheelchair with an oxygen tank.

He said he "stopped and questioned their direction" and then producers "rushed me out of the studio as an apparent fight broke out".

Veteran broadcaster Ted Koppel, former U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore and former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio also agreed to interviews with a disguised Cohen, according to reports.

The seven-episode series marks Baron Cohen's first television project in a decade after he launched his comedy career as subversive white English rapper Ali G., whose interviews included Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich. "It was supposed to be this big time Showtime documentary and it was passed on to me by a speakers' bureau, which, you know, I would assume had done some vetting". Koppel said he never signed a release.

Today, Moore said in a statement that he accepted an expenses-paid trip to Washington in February, ostensibly to receive an award for supporting Israel.

He also rattled a sabre about possible litigation in connection with the send-up "if Showtime airs a defamatory attack on my character".

Cohen was in disguise as a Finnish comedian during the October 2017 interview, Arpaio recalled in an interview with Breitbart News.

The interview later shifted to talk of Palin's political future and a possible run for office, with the former vice presidential nominee, saying: 'Perhaps it is in my future to get out there and serve the public.

Showtime had no comment, per usual.

He said the experience made him "very uncomfortable", because of some of the language that Cohen's character used, such as "golden shower". She claimed she had been approached to participate in a "legit opportunity" to honor "American vets".

On Thursday, Baron Cohen responded - sort of - with a crass in-character statement telling his side of the story. He added, "I do believe you have been hit by a bullshit grenade and are bleedin' FAKE NEWS". "I sat through a long "interview" full of Hollywoodism's disrespect and sarcasm - but finally had enough and literally, physically removed my mic and walked out".

Showtime's president and CEO called Cohen a "comedic genius" during the show's series announcement Monday. "Behind the elaborate setup is a genuine quest for the truth about people, places and politics".
