Trump in Britain: Packed visit may shield him from protests, angry-baby balloon

US embassy in London warns Americans in UK to ‘keep low profile’ during Trump visit

Britain's exit from the European Union, which was approved in a 2016 referendum, has been a complicated divorce and the United Kingdom has opted for a "soft Brexit" that includes maintaining some ties to the EU.

Trump also said that if May's Brexit plans included sticking to European Union rules it could prevent a US-UK trade deal.

Asked about his trip to the UK, Trump said he was not concerned about protests because "they like me a lot there", suggesting the Brexit vote had come about because "they agree with me on immigration".

"We are committed to dialogue, including of course with those we strongly disagree with, and in government, we would find a way to work with his administration while also standing up for our values", he said, according to BBC News.

Trump personally criticized May's handling of Brexit, saying that her so-called soft-Brexit approach went "the opposite way" to what he had recommended and that it was "very unfortunate". "I am assuming that his mum told him that when you go to someone's house you do not insult the host".

The British government on Thursday published its long-awaited Brexit blueprint aimed at restarting stalled talks with the European Union, only for it to be panned by eurosceptics, the City of London and the U.S. president.

May had aimed to leverage the prize of a future trade deal with the United States in an effort gain support for her post-Brexit plans.

He also told the paper that Boris Johnson, who resigned on Monday (9 July) as foreign secretary in protest of May's Brexit white paper, would make "a great prime minister" and that May ignored his advice on Brexit.

Top it off with the introduction of trade policies that have targeted some European industries - even though European nations are longtime friends accustomed to easy trade with the US - and it is not surprising that Trump's itinerary will keep him out of central London on Friday, when large protests are planned.

"I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London", Mr Trump told the newspaper.

On Thursday night, hundreds of demonstrators chanted outside the USA ambassador's residence where Trump was staying on the outskirts of London, providing a preview of the large protests expected on Friday.

Hundreds of protesters descended on the castle to voice their opposition to the president's visit.

I am just saying I think he would be a great Prime Minister.

The president revealed that he knows about the mocking 20-foot "Trump Baby" blimp that flew over Parliament Square on Thursday.

As well as in London, protests are expected to take place in Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds, Cambridge and Cardiff after Trump arrives here on Thursday.

"I think he's got what it takes, and I think he's got the right attitude to be a great prime minister".

Donald Trump announced that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members will significantly increase their military spending, after he apparently threatened to pull the USA out.

And then there's the royal moment that the world will be watching on Friday: the moment that Trump meets the Queen.

Trump and his wife Melania are due to meet the 92-year-old monarch at Windsor Castle on Friday and both the imposing setting and Elizabeth being one of the most admired women in the world is expected to temper the U.S. president's iconaclastic ways.
