Some of the boys wave from their hospital beds

He and other British divers who aided in the rescue returned to Heathrow on Friday morning.

In this image made from video, released by the Thailand Government Spokesman Bureau, three of the 12 boys are seen recovering in their hospital beds after being rescued along with their coach from a flooded cave in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand.

Two British divers found the boys on July 2, squatting on a muddy mound in a flooded chamber several kilometers inside the complex, nine days after they went for their quick jaunt.

But he said: "The most important thing to have was a full face mask which had been applied inside with positive pressure to enable them to breathe and to be relaxed enough so not to feel any anxiety during the process".

He said: "Initially of course excitement, relief that they were still alive". It was very cold at night and pitch dark. "The 4 Brits then did further supply dives to the soccer players, the coach and the four Thai Navy Seals which allowed them to prepare and sustain themselves for the rescue ultimately".

John Volanthen said he's just relieved the boys are all alive, and praised the collective effort of the global contingent of rescuers.

The children and their 25-year-old football coach were retrieved following a risky three-day operation which concluded on Tuesday.

The rescue gripped the world, with much praise focusing on the navy SEALs and global team of divers who helped them, toiling for days in risky conditions to get the boys out.

The Thai Navy Seals have released dramatic footage of the operation, giving greater insight into just how unsafe it was.

Mr Volanthen's mother, Jill, said: "We are absolutely so proud, but my sympathy is with the wife and family of the diver who lost his life".

"I have never seen anything like it with man battling to control the natural forces of the monsoon waters".

"I refuse to let Hollywood #whitewashout the Thai Cave rescue story", Chu wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, hours after news emerged that the Christian film studio Pure Flix Entertainment was scouting the rights to the story.

Harris, known to friends as "Harry", was part of the expert team who successfully saved all 13 members of the soccer team, who were trapped inside the cave for 17 days after heavy rain caused the cave system to flood. As they were coming down the slope, we were counting them until we got to 13. unbelievable, ' he said. "I was afraid that he might think I was going to blame him, so I sent a letter of comfort to him in hospital", said the abbot.
