For example, the office doesn't have a nursing room for when mothers need to pump their breast milk in private.

The state is nudging its way to better access to breastmilk for infants under 6 months, with 50 per cent of children in Haryana are exclusively breastfed. "Colostrum is said to be high in antibodies and reduces the risk of death from hypothermia, helps in epithelial recovery and protects children from infectious diseases".

"Kenya has made significant strides in doubling the number of babies being exclusively breastfed from 32 per cent in 2008 to 61 per cent, but more needs to be done to ensure that all babies take nothing but breast milk for the first six months of life", said Deputy Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Gladys Mugambi at a media roundtable in Nairobi to mark World Breastfeeding Week that ends tomorrow. Those who breastfed their child have a lower risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer as well as heart disease or osteoporosis. Breastfeeding prevents malnutrition and has also irreplaceable role to decrease child mortality, Dr. Belaynesh said.

Breast milk contains the entire nutrient that an infant needs for the first six months of life.

Promoting, supporting and protecting breastfeeding is one way we can help give our children a strong foundation for optimal development.

Another obstacle mothers face is discomfort during nursing.

The report which analyzes data from 76 countries reveals that despite the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding, too many newborns are left waiting too long for different reasons, like feeding newborns food or drinks, including formula, the rise in elective C-sections and gaps in the quality of care provided to mothers and newborns.

To promote breastfeeding among mothers, India has enacted the Infant Milk Substitutes, Feeding Bottles and Infant Foods Act, (IMS Act) 2003 that regulates production, supply and distribution of infant milk substitutes.

Only about 5% of women are unable to produce enough milk with the right help, and toddlers certainly don't need commercial toddler milk.

It commemorates the Innocenti Declaration signed in August 1990 by government policymakers, the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF and other organisations to protect, promote and support breastfeeding. Very low exclusive breastfeeding rate has persisted among mothers in Nigeria with the National rate at 25% in 2014 (National Nutrition and Health Survey, 2014). According to UNICEF and World Health Organization, approximately 60 per cent of newborns - 78 million babies - are not breastfed within their first hour of life, rendering them susceptible to a plethora of diseases and disadvantages in terms of cognitive development. Continue breastfeeding at night.
