Active situation: Shooting leaves four dead in F

Police in Fredericton, New Brunswick responded to the shooting in a residential neighborhood at around 7am on Friday, taking one suspect into custody after an intensive emergency response.

Authorities described the shooting as an "active incident".

The police confirmed that one suspect has been taken in police in custody.

The incident in the capital of the Canadian province New Brunswick is still ongoing.

Police were also asking people on Facebook not to use social media to report on police locations.

"The RCMP is providing support to the local Fredericton police force", said Scott Bardsley, a spokesman for Canadian Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, using the acronym for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.




"Please appreciate this is a hard time for their families and our colleagues", Fredericton police said on Twitter. 'It was sort of like a pop, pop, pop, pop'.

Fredericton resident David MacCoubrey told The Associated Press he heard as many as 20 gunshots and was hiding on his kitchen floor as police investigated.

At least four people have been shot dead in eastern Canada. "Doors are locked and everybody's inside". He was killed after an exchange of fire with police, who say they have yet to establish a motive.

The town of Fredericton is located about 70 miles from the USA border.

More recently on July 22, a man opened fire in a bustling nightlife district of Toronto, killing an 18 year old woman and a 10 year old girl and wounding 13 other people.
