7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia a Week After Another Deadly Temblor

Foreign tourists sit and lie on the floor as they queue to leave Lombok Island after an earthquake hit as seen at Lombok International Airport Indonesia

The country's National Board for Disaster Management said Monday that 91 people have been killed and 209 others injured in the quake.

"Bali. Trembling. So long", she told her 10.6 million followers.

The tremor came a week after a shallow 6.4-magnitude quake hit Lombok, killing 17 people and damaging hundreds of buildings.

"The number of fatalities will definitely rise because some victims have not been found or rescued", he added.

In the neighbouring island of Bali, video footage showed people running from their homes screaming.

Indonesia is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it susceptible to earthquakes. In December 2004, a massive magnitude 9.1 quake off Sumatra triggered a tsunami that killed 230,000 people in a dozen countries.

The Bali and Lombok airports have remained open.

I Made Suprateka, a spokesman for Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), said the state utility company is sending personnel and equipment from East Java and Bali to help restore power in East and North Lombok. These are tweets from Bali and Lombok, both major tourist destinations in Indonesia are coming from visitors in panic.

"I was at the rooftop of my hotel and the building started swaying very hard".

Peter Dutton who is in Lombok for a counter-terrorism meeting, said the quake "was powerful enough to put us on the floor".

One mother Helen Milne told the BBC that her daughter, Laura, from Oxfordshire, is on Gili T. She said: 'They are stuck on the island and are reporting rioting, fighting, and people can't get on boats.

"Later I stopped a auto and I asked a local please take me and my family to the airport and he said "okay no problem". We are staying in a treehouse and it was swaying like insane.

The Gilis are three coral-fringed tropical islands popular with backpackers and divers, a few kilometres off the northwest coast of the larger Lombok island.

"All the activities are shut down".

"We are cutting short our holiday because I can't walk and we're just not in the mood anymore", said the 26-year-old, sitting on a trolley at the airport with his leg bandaged.

Dutch tourist Marc Ganbuwalba injured his knee in a stampede of diners from a restaurant after the quake.

Officials blamed the destroyed houses on the lack of firm structure.

"We will evacuate people off of the three Gili islands".

Australia's home affairs minister has tweeted that he and his delegation have been safely evacuated in darkness from a Lombok hotel where they have been staying during a regional security conference. "Heard screams", he wrote. Here I am on vacation, enjoying life in Bali and suddenly this thing's SO close I'm genuinely just went through my head how lucky and powerless I am. "Lots of cracks, fallen doors".

His government issued a travel notice, advising citizens to defer travel to Lombok and urging those now there to leave.

"Mate, we were knocked certainly to the floor".
