Google Digital Wellbeing Now Available in Beta
Google has typically encouraged users to download apps through the Play Store for security purposes, although the company has remained oddly silent about this, at least until now. The game is available on PC and Mac, home consoles like Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, and even launched on iOS earlier in March for iPhone and iPad users.
Assuming you've got a compatible phone that's running Digital Wellbeing, feel free to download the app now so you don't have to keep jumping into your settings just to see your phone usage. Videos such as the one shown above show how tantalisingly close you are to playing a great third-person shooter on your tiny device.
The message doesn't actually tell users where they can "safely" download the game, nor the status of the game as a beta, and as an exclusive for Samsung devices for the time being. According to Epic, it would have likewise offered Fortnite for iOS through its own website if it were able to, but the closed nature of Apple's ecosystem prevented that.
The message that pops up says that "Fortnite Battle Royal by Epic Games, Inc is not available on Google Play".
Epic has shared a few more details about the upcoming Android release of Fortnite. With the option on Android to release its app without going through Google's official channel, they also skip having to give Google a slice of the in-game purchase pie.
XDA-Developers explains that when people sign up to the beta, their Pixel downloads an app that replaces a placeholder app, making everything work just fine.
