Kylian Mbappe scores four as PSG thrash Lyon

Kylian Mbappe insisted he should have done better after his four-goal blitz fired Paris St Germain to a new Ligue 1 record.

Mbappe's haul saw him become the youngster player in 45 seasons to score four goals in one French top flight match in a victory which all-but secures a second straight title for PSG.

"He is a great player, everyone knows it", Mbappe said of Neymar.

It was PSG's ninth Ligue 1 win in a row since the start of the season, and eclipsed the 82-year-old record set by Olympique Lillois during the 1936-37 campaign.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that A Nigerian lady seems to have an unresolved beef with French footballer Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe's first goal came after Neymar was timely tackled by a Lyon defender but the tackle ricocheted into the feet of the French attacker and he gave it a deft finish with his weak foot to make it 2-0 for his side.

Just minutes before the rout began, Anthony Lopes twice denied him in one on ones and Mbappe could have gone home with six goals on another day.

With striker Edinson Cavani substituted by coach Thomas Tuchel following Presnel Kimpembe's red card, Mbappe took the scoring responsibilities.

France's forward Kylian Mbappe (2R) celebrates with teammates after scoring his team's fourth goal during the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup round of 16 football match between France and Argentina at the Kazan Arena in Kazan on June 30, 2018. For me he's a phenomenon.

PSG pulled off the Ligue 1 shutout on Sunday at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

The only stain on his record so far this year is a red card - the second of his PSG career - he received during injury time on September 1 in a 4-2 win at Nimes, which resulted in a three-game ban. But Mbappe delivered breathtaking performances in Russian Federation and has been consistent throughout the year.

Mbappe has since made amends.

Given Neymar's power at the club - it's even rumoured he has a large say in which players are signed - it's easy to see why there is already talk that his own exploits are being overshadowed.
