After months of waiting we've finally seen it, the first episode of a new era of Doctor Who.
The Doctor is in, and on her way to toy chests and display shelves.
Whittaker's debut drew more viewers than any of her three most recent predecessors in the role, including Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith and David Tennant.
Whittaker was by far and away the star of this episode, breathing new life into a classic character.
'Doctor Who' continues on Sunday at 6.55pm on BBC One.
In the past, I've written about how badly I want to see historical Doctor Who episodes that go outside of the United Kingdom to other parts of the world that have equally rich histories. It didn't come across as revolutionary other than seeing Whittaker in the role-and that's probably a good thing. And that's maybe for the best. Chris Chibnall and company managed to give us an episode that did its job and kept us intrigued for the rest of the season. The new season kicked off yesterday (October 7) with Whittaker's very first episode, The Woman Who Fell to Earth, which saw the new Doctor meet her soon-to-be companions - and while everyone impressed, there's one outstanding character who didn't make the final cut.
Let us know what you thought about the Thirteenth Doctor's introduction into the series! Now, I know that nothing's ever universally loved, so I've genuinely tried to find some less positive reactions, but I can't find anything too venomous at all.
I think they're going to be excited by Jodie and I'll tell you for why.
"Sonic screwdriver. Well, I say 'screwdriver, ' but it's more multipurpose than that".
That means that, differently from past seasons, they won't be doing any two-parters this season!
Doctor Who has been crawling slowly but surely towards higher production values over the course of its run, and it's great to see the show's look finally reach the level of quality we can expect from prestige dramas. Capaldi, especially in his first season, seemed unsure of which way to play the character, but Whittaker makes an effortlessly assured debut, as if she's been doing this for years. Obviously the Doctor's not having that, and she steps in to save the day. We can evolve while still staying true to who we are.
