Nikki Haley resigns as US ambassador to the United Nations
The White House is effectively announcing the exit of its most popular Cabinet-level official - the extremely rare one who has strong approval among both Republicans and Democrats - just before voters vote. Trump offered effusive praise for his envoy to the United Nations. The President said she could come back any time in a different capacity and have the pick of jobs, so happy was he with her performance at the United Nations. He also said the pair had "solved a lot of problems".
"It was a blessing to go into the United Nations every day with body armor", Haley said, saying her job was to defend America on the world stage.
For what it's worth, "Ivanka Trump laughed when she was told of the speculation", says CNN White House reporter Jim Acosta.
Haley, 46, is the latest in a long line of high-profile departures from the administration, such as former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who was sacked in March, and Steve Bannon, Trump's chief strategist, who left in August 2017. "And then, to come in and do two years of Russian Federation and Iran and North Korea-it's been eight years of intense time, and I'm a believer in term limits", she said. I mean, does this bootlicking sound like someone mounting a primary challenge? "She's made it a more important - more importantly, a more important position".
The former SC governor has been a strong advocate of Trump's foreign policy. Trump added that Haley told him she wanted a break around six months ago.
Haley also secured three successively tougher Security Council sanction resolutions against North Korea - which the administration has credited with bringing Kim Jong Un to the negotiating table - and an arms embargo against South Sudan.
Her departure is the latest shake-up in the Trump administration ahead of the November midterm elections.
In a tweet, the president teased a "big announcement" Tuesday morning and referred to Haley as his "friend". As a businessman, I expect you will appreciate my sense that returning from government to the private sector is not a step down but a step up. "And they've never seen anything like it, so there's a respect there".
"Anyone that goes and tries to spew hate on someone because of their color or religion or their place in life - that's terribly wrong", she continued.

Ms Haley indicated she did not where her next role would be, but ruled out running for the 2020 presidency.

Doctor Who Brilliantly Regenerates for Series 11
Chris Chibnall and company managed to give us an episode that did its job and kept us intrigued for the rest of the season. It didn't come across as revolutionary other than seeing Whittaker in the role-and that's probably a good thing.
