"We gave an overview of what mental health actually is, looking at the stigma around mental health and challenging that".

It says, "mental health refers to a broad array of activities directly or indirectly related to the mental well-being, prevention of mental disorders, and treatment and rehabilitation of people affected by mental disorders".

"We welcome this opportunity to work with Kent's businesses by enabling them to find and use the tools available to keep their staff safe and healthy".

Children's mental health may seem like a huge problem to tackle, but everyone can take small steps to help.

She said the programmes outlined for the celebrations include public lecture, appearances on various media platforms, a health walk, outreach screening programmes, and Open Day at all Mental Health facilities for public interactions. The tips below are universal principles created to support a diverse range of people across a range of workplaces. This year's theme is Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World.

Around 75% of cases of mental illness start before a child reaches their 18th birthday, while 50% of mental health problems in adults, aside from dementia, take root before the age of 15.

Mental Health Minister Roger Cook joined volunteers to distribute information packs at Elizabeth Quay Station this morning.

"In my time as health minister I have met many people who have been bereaved by suicide and their stories of pain and loss will stay with me for a long time". Many more should be seeking help, he said.

LabourList has more readers than ever before - but we need your support.

"There is a family who are concerned about their child who has mental health issues or another family member, they've been to see a GP, they've been referred to a mental health professional, how soon will they be seen?"

Labour has had a shadow cabinet minister for mental health since 2015 and the party has pledged to increase spending on services and protect budgets.

It called for a human rights-based approach to ensure that people with mental health conditions are not denied fundamental human rights, including access to employment, education and other core life experiences.

Dr Mikkelsen notes that "the area of mental health is still misunderstood, but now there is momentum and the highest possible recognition of mental health".

Other factors identified as compounding stress in adolescents are the expanding online technologies which undoubtedly bring many benefits, but can also exert additional pressure when people feel the need to be constantly connected.

Parents, teachers and friends concerned about a teenager at risk of suicide should be willing to listen without judgement, provide reassurance that they care, and to ask questions about suicidal thoughts. For many, these can be times of stress and anxiety, and these feelings can lead to serious mental illness if they are not recognised and managed in time. That's why we're supporting Natasha Devon's campaign to have the Health and Safety at Work Act updated so that all employers have an obligation to provide mental health first aiders - regardless of whether workplaces are unionised or not - and independent of the size of the business.
