‘S Arabia allows consulate search over Khashoggi’

Saudi writer 'murdered' in consulate

Report Saudi journalist killed in Turkey

Turkish officials have not stated how they determined that Khashoggi was killed at the consulate. "The consulate officials can not save themselves by simply saying, 'He has left, '" Erdogan said Monday on a visit to Budapest. He said that senior state officials have been in communication with Riyadh.

The Saudis have called the allegations "baseless", insisting Khashoggi left the building through an exit that wasn't the main building.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not mention Khashoggi or Saudi Arabia once during a televised address.

A veteran journalist, Khashoggi disappeared on October 2 after entering Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul to arrange paperwork for his wedding to Cengiz, a Turk.

He has not been heard of since.

"The Turkish Foreign Ministry has released a statement condemning the journalist's disappearance and claiming that "[Turkey] can conduct an examination in these premises with the consent of the head of the diplomatic mission".

But speaking to reporters afterward, Erdogan said he was awaiting a prosecutor's investigation about what had happened to Khashoggi.

'I am concerned about that, ' Trump said.

Canada expressed concern Sunday over reports that Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in his country's consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Turkish source said Turkish officials were trying to identify them.

TRT World's Ben Tornquist reports.

"I am concerned about it".

But in an interview with the public broadcaster news channel TRT Haber, Aktay said: "This is an assault against Turkey's right of sovereignty". These include ending all relationships with Iran and Turkey, ending support for the Muslim Brotherhood, and shutting down al-Jazeera, which has been highly critical of Saudi Arabia - things that are never going to happen.

Kislakci also alleged, based on conversations with officials he did not name, that Khashoggi was made to "faint", then was dismembered.

Turkish authorities are set to search the site after announcing that Saudi Arabia had declared itself "open to co-operation" in the investigation, but no date has been announced for the search.

"The condition of the lost journalist, details on him and who is responsible for this will be uncovered", Omer Celik said. He has lived in the United States since previous year to avoid possible arrest, and has written a series of columns for the Post on Saudi affairs.

As a contributor to the Post, Khashoggi has written extensively about Saudi Arabia, including criticism of its war in Yemen, its recent diplomatic spat with Canada and its arrest of women's rights activists after the lifting of a ban on women driving.

"To do otherwise would betray those who languish in prison". However, many officials who provided information earlier in the inquiry, were on Tuesday refusing to speak, citing political sensitivities.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told Bloomberg News last week that Mr Khashoggi had left the building shortly after entering it.

Yet, Ankara appears to see a hostile motive in the Khashoggi affair.

President Donald Trump has vowed to "get to the bottom" of the case of missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Opening cupboards, filing cabinets and wooden panels covering air conditioning units, Otaibi walked through the six floors of the building including a basement prayer room, offices, visa counters, kitchens and toilets as well as storage and security rooms. "This is a horrific escalation in the crown prince's campaign to silence dissent, to silence any criticism, even the mildest of criticism, from Saudis at home or overseas", says columnist for The Intercept Mehdi Hasan, who is also host of "UpFront" at Al Jazeera English, where he interviewed Khashoggi earlier this year.
