Samsung's brand new Galaxy A9 to take mid-premium smartphone market by storm
Samsung Electronics on Thursday (Oct 11) unveiled its latest smartphone which has fourrear cameras - a first for the company as well as the industry, in a bid to reinvigorate growth in its mobile division. The Galaxy A9 (2018) comes with a curved back, but it does not sport a curved display, even though curved glass is included on top of that display.
The Galaxy A7 meanwhile features a 8MP 120 degree ultra wide lens, a 24MP lens, and a depth lens.
This allows for a variety of different shooting modes, as well as customised shots using features like artificial bokeh effects.
Samsung will make the Galaxy A9 available in three colours; Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue and Bubblegum Pink. The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) has four cameras on the back. There is now no pricing information available for the device. This also includes a 24MP front-facing sensor.
For its size, the Galaxy A9 sports a generous 3,800mAh battery and is running Samsung's custom UI.
Apart from the four-camera setup, Galaxy A9 2018 offers mid-range level specifications.
Speaking about the camera system during the Galaxy A9 launch event, Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh said: "Building on our legacy in smartphone camera development we're introducing next-generation technology across our entire Galaxy portfolio to give more consumers the opportunity to experience cutting-edge innovation".
As for the internal storage, both the variants ship with 128GB that can be expanded up to 512GB with a microSD card. The Galaxy A9 (2018) also packs decent mid-range hardware- Snapdragon 660 SoC, up to 8GB of RAM, Super AMOLED display and a massive 3800mAh battery. Samsung told us the device would launch some time in mid-November, though we don't know anything more specific than that yet. The Oppo R17 Pro, Samsung Galaxy A7, and LG V40 ThinQ that launched in recent weeks all sport such cameras.
Samsung is yet to roll out Android 9.0 Pie update to its flagship Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus smartphones and rumours suggest that Samsung would also add AI-features exclusive to the Galaxy Note 9 along with the Android Pie upgrade. Galaxy A9 will be available in select markets fromNovember.
