As nearly everyone knows, Genie has been trapped inside the lamp for thousands of years, but once the street-rat-turned-phony-prince Aladdin rubs its side, Genie is finally free. As we all know, Aladdin is that diamond in the rough.
Though we don't see (or hear) a lot in the first trailer, what we do see and hear should bring us right back to Aladdin '92. The tagline reads, "Choose Wisely".
The Grammy-Award winning rapper and Academy-Award nominated actor shared the poster on social media with the caption, "LEMME OUT!" Smith followed it up by saying, "Can't wait for y'all to see me BLUE!", alluding to his role as Genie. As Aladdin and Jasmine fall in love, they must also face the evil Jafar, who plans to become Sultan by marrying Jasmine.
Aladdin is among a series of live-action remakes Disney has been working on.
For the animated version, the voice cast included Robin Williams, Scott Weinger, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman, Gilbert Gottfried, Jim Cummings, and more. Tim Burton's Dumbo and Jon Favreau's The Lion Kingset to hit theaters in 2019, and Maleficent 2 will arrive in 2020. Smith plays Genie alongside Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Campbell as Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. Disney is also developing live-action remakes for their streaming service - titles like The Sword in the Stone and Lady and the Tramp.
