The IRS said Friday it's offering relief "to any Major Disaster Declaration area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as qualifying for either individual or public assistance".
The death toll was expected to rise this weekend in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael as hundreds remained unaccounted for along the Florida Panhandle where decimated communities remained cutoff and in the dark.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott took an aerial tour of some impacted areas on Thursday and, hours later, tweeted that he and his wife, Ann, were sheltering 50 Florida Highway Patrol officers in the governor's mansion.
"I don't think we know enough", he said.
FEMA crews have been using bulldozers and other heavy equipment to push a path through debris so rescuers can sift the rubble using specially trained search dogs.
More than 1,700 search and rescue workers have been deployed, Governor Rick Scott's office said in a statement, including seven swift-water rescue teams and almost 300 ambulances.
"We do know that there has been damage to several of our church buildings", Kendrick said.
But judging from the number of homes reduced to "sticks", he said "my sense is they are going to find more victims".
As of Thursday evening, more than 900,000 homes and businesses in the country's southeast region had no electricity.
Thousands of people have been informally reported missing to local authorities, the Red Cross and the state, as people look for their friends and relatives.
