Environment ministry forms teams to report incidents of pollution

Delhi-NCR To Observe'Clean Air Week From November 1-5

Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority had issued a notification predicting that air quality between November 1 and 10 will rise to "severe" category.

In NCR, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida recorded "severe" pollution levels while Gurgaon recorded "very poor" air quality, CPCB data showed.

Officials had said that the haze will continue to persist during the early mornings and late evenings for the next few days. "That is why [our air pollution measures] have collaboration at their heart, working with businesses, farmers, industry and households, to develop innovative new solutions to reduce emissions", MP Thérèse Coffey stated.

Green Latinos submitted a comment on the plan, highlighting the disproportionate burdens placed on communities of color: "One of two Latinos in the United States lives in a county that does not meet EPA's public health air quality standard".

Air pollution in Delhi and nearby states increases particularly due to burning of paddy straw during October and November and wheat straw during April in Punjab and Haryana.

"Our dream is a world free of air pollution".

The authority is strongly concerned about air pollution and is taking every possible measure to combat it; CPCB is also taking complaints related to air pollution through Twitter and Facebook. Of the total vehicular pollution, 40 per cent to 45 percent comes from two-wheelers and another 30 to 35 percent from four-wheelers. The most publicized being the Delhi government's January 2016 introduction of an "odd-even" rule for rationing of cars on Delhi roads.

"Be on full alert and take all possible efforts for the control of air pollution, given the spurt in stubble burning in neighbouring states and adverse meteorological conditions", Mr Hussain said.

The special teams comprise the local SDM as the team leader, senior official from the Ministry and representatives from CPCB, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Pollution Control Committee.

An aggressive ten-day-long "Clean Air Campaign" from November 1 to 10 has been launched by Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan to monitor and report polluting activities as well as to ensure quick action.

According to forecasts, the air pollution might relent to "very poor" category - when AQI is between 300 and 400 - on Tuesday before it starts climbing back up again from Wednesday.

The government has also directed the transport departments and traffic police in these districts to intensify checking of polluting vehicles and control traffic congestion in Delhi and other NCR districts during the period.
