Queen invites Meghan's mum to spend Christmas with the royal family
Following weeks of drama surrounding Meghan's father Thomas Markle and her extended and estranged family members in the US, Doria was praised for her composed and graceful appearance at the royal wedding.
The source added: "Queen Elizabeth is very aware of all the problems Meghan has had with her dad and sister and she feels sorry for her that she doesn't have family and a support network close by".
Doria cut a casual appearance in a pair of cream pants and in light of the warm weather, did away with a jacket wearing a simple grey t-shirt.
A senior royal source told the publication that the unique move was "a very thoughtful gesture".
In contrast, Kate Middleton's parents have also been guests at the Sandringham Christmas morning church service but typically stay with their daughter and Prince William at their nearby home nearby, instead. Per the Daily Mail's report, Doria has been invited to stay at Sandringham House in Norfolk, England for the duration of the royals' holiday festivities.
The Queen's invitation would show respect and also acknowledge that Meghan, unlike Kate, has no other family in Britain, the source said.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace has so far declined to comment.
It has been said the the Queen was very taken with Doria following the royal wedding.
Meghan was last seen in public with her mother in September to mark the launch of a cookbook at an outdoor reception in Kensington Palace.
