Milwaukee Bucks Trade Matthew Dellavedova to Cavaliers for George Hill
08 December 2018, 09:18 | Anna Jefferson
Salary cap analysis: George Hill acquisition gives Bucks...
The Cavaliers have re-acquired Matthew Dellavedova and big man John Henson from the Bucks, along with a future first- and second-round draft pick in exchange for veteran point guard George Hill. The Bucks are also sending John Henson to the Cavaliers in the deal, as well as a first-round and second-round pick in 2021.
Smith asked to be traded by the Cavaliers earlier this year when the team started to cut his playing time in an effort to give younger players more experience on the court.
It's a win-win situation for all three teams as the Bucks look to solidify themselves as an elite team in the Eastern Conference, the Cavs continue to rebuild and the Wizards add the 3-point threat that they've lacked all season.
Hill (6-3, 188) appeared in 37 games (all starts) for Cleveland after being acquired by the Cavaliers on February 8, 2018, averaging 9.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 27.4 minutes per game over that span. Dekker (6-9, 230), who was acquired by Cleveland on August 7, 2018, played in nine games (five starts) for the Cavs this season, averaging 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.22 steals in 18.8 minutes per game. That was an impetus for getting the deal done now.
On the surface, Dellavedova's stats of 1.7 points per game on 32 percent shooting don't indicate that he will move the needle for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The center underwent surgery to fix a torn ligament in his left wrist late last month. But, the reality is, it could be much of the same as the Cavs continue to eye the future - which now looks like Duke monster Zion Williamson at pick No.1 in next year's draft. "We lost George, which was my vet, so I'll have to talk to Dellavedova and he'll be able to lead me how George led me". He has been out most of this season with a wrist injury. The 24-year-old has played only nine games.
As far as the Cavaliers are concerned, this plays into their mindset of rebuilding. "We wish Jason the best moving forward and appreciate the value he brought to our team as a great teammate and true professional".
