Trump spoke to reporters at the White House before departing for the Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia.
However its important to note the president had nothing but praise for his chief of staff, during a private White House event held Friday night, and that none of the rumors have been confirmed.
Seventeen months in, Kelly and President Donald Trump have reached a stalemate in their relationship and it is no longer seen as tenable by either party.
But news website The Daily Caller - which has close ties to the Trump administration - reported one White House source had dismissed claims of Kelly's departure as 'absolutely untrue'. Kelly, who had hired Porter, initially defended him as "a man of true integrity and honor".
Kelly, a retired Marine Corps four-star general, was tapped by Trump in August 2017 to try to normalize a White House that had been riven by infighting.
Kelly is expected to be replaced with Nick Ayers, who is now chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump and Kelly have privately argued at times and complained about each other to confidants, sometimes in colorful language.
"Now is the best opportunity to be laser-focused on further building out the political infrastructure that will support victory for President Trump and the GOP in 2020", campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement. "Trump's chief of staff is Trump and always will be".
This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.
Trump, meanwwhile, announced Saturday that he's picked a battle-hardened commander who oversaw troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to be the nation's next top military adviser. Kelly's role, though, has lessened in recent months as the president has instead followed his own counsel, and added like-minded aides to his staff. Investigators reportedly wanted to know about reports that Trump had attempted to fire the special prosecutor.
Kelly expected to depart White House amid Trump shake-up
Compounding the rumors were reports surrounding Kelly taking the day off on Friday, as the president traveled to Missouri. Like all of those interviewed, the person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive personnel matters.
