Christmas came early for a bunch of lucky Walmart customers... because Tyler Perry just picked up their tabs
According to Global News, Walmart has confirmed that Perry paid off $432,635 worth of strangers' layaway items at the two locations.
On Thursday morning, at the East Point and Douglasville locations of the retail store, Perry paid off the entire Walmart layaway department.
Perry captioned the video, which has been "liked" over 78,000 times at the time of this writing, "I was trying to do this anonymously but oh well!"
Perry spent about $434,000 on the holiday surprise, but there is a catch: His gift is only for items put on layaway at those stores before 9:30 a.m. December 6. 'So, Merry Christmas to everybody'. Well, almost. Individuals with items on reserve in those stores can go pick them up for a single penny.
"I know it's hard times, everyone's struggling and I'm just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this", he said. "So, Merry Christmas everybody, you gotta go into the Walmart, get your layaway, pay a penny, one penny, and you get your layaway".
Perry plunked down around $434,000 to cover the costs of the layaway items on order for around 1,500 customers, Walmart spokesperson LeMia Jenkins toldPeople. 'The heartfelt excitement and joy we're seeing from our customers as a result of his holiday gift has been touching'.
"I was shocked", said manager Shameka, who didn't provide her last name. Thank you Tyler for this handsome gift!
