Team president Art Rooney II told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Thursday the team is open to every option this offseason except for releasing the seven-time Pro Bowl player.

"Whether the situation can be reconciled and have him back on the team next year, we're a long way away from thinking that can happen".

"There's not much we can do right now; we have time to make a decision", Rooney told the outlet.

On top of everything that is going on, Rooney also revealed that Brown has refused to return repeated phone calls from him and coach Mike Tomlin.

San Francisco isn't the only team with draft assets to facilitate a deal and the cap space to fit Brown's $22 million cap hit next season, then his $18 million and $19 million hits the next two years.

The four-time first-team All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection has led the National Football League in receptions twice (2014, 2015) and receiving yards twice (2014, 2017). That brought about plenty of speculation that Brown had played his final game in Pittsburgh's black and yellow.

Pittsburgh is reportedly expected to consider trade offers for Brown ahead of the free-agency period.

Pittsburgh can't trade him until March 13, meaning the Steelers have two months to smooth things over with the NFL's best receiver or else they might be forced to find a new home for him. There's plenty to sort out with the team in general after missing the postseason, and the recent rash of drama that has inflicted it the past few years clearly has had an effect on the on-field product.

Rooney said in the interview that salary cap implications would not "box us into anything". During that week Brown even made it seem as though he wished to be traded from the team, despite reports saying he never demanded a move.

The cryptic tweet plays along with Brown's catchphrase, "business is boomin".
