Andy Murray feeling the love as he aims for Wimbledon goodbye

Roger Federer is the returning champion, but the GOAT is not the favorite for this season's Aussie. But after overcoming an elbow injury that required surgery, he stormed to Wimbledon and US Open titles last summer, taking his Grand Slam tally to 14 and propelling him back to the world No. 1 spot.

Federer reacted to the news on the eve of the Australian Open in Melbourne, where the Swiss great said he saw signs of Murray's downfall during a charity event in Glasgow in November 2017.

Serena Williams has adopted a low profile ahead of the Australian Open, but rival players admit the American's shadow looms large in Melbourne as she eyes a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam crown.

Andy Murray is in great terms with nearly everyone on tour and he managed also to have a special bond with the so-called "bad boy" Nick Kyrgios. Then there's a resurgent Rafael Nadal, the likes of Cilic and Sasha Zverev.

'I'm not sure I'm able to play through the pain for another four or five months, ' said the Scot. He's targeting retirement at Wimbledon, if he can go that far. It's just now that it's definite.

Murray has said, 'I can still play to a level, not a level I'm happy playing at'.

"But there's a group of players that I think everyone thinks is very hard to play against, especially in Grand Slams", Osaka added. "Maybe it just looks that way".

From the moment he won his first matches at Wimbledon as an 18-year-old in 2005 and picked up his first title in San Jose in 2006, Murray has lived his professional life in the spotlight, the great hope for tennis in Britain, a country starved of success for so long.

You probably know by now that tennis player Andy Murray has announced he expects to retire within the next few months.

"It hits us top guys hard because we know Andy very well". We like him. He doesn't have many enemies, to be quite honest.

Williams has a tough road to an eighth title, with world number one and French Open champion Simona Halep a potential quarter-final opponent followed by Osaka in the semi-finals if the seeds hold sway.

Nadal kicks off his campaign in Melbourne on Monday in his opening match against Australian, James Duckworth.

When praised by a reporter as being the first person ever to win two Olympic tennis gold medals, Murray drily responded, "I think Venus and Serena have won about four each".

"Everybody knows when Andy goes on court he gives 100%".

"The past couple of years have not been fantastic for me, I've scraped around and it is not good enough", Watson, now ranked 108th, said. That's what I hope for him. He can play well in fast courts. I don't want to continue playing that way. I think Andy's going to fight as he did all his career.

"I've been feeling good on the practice courts this week and missing Sydney has been positive for my fitness and my game".

"I wasn't (holding back), no", Djokovic said.

"I feel like it's just leveling that out is one of my biggest goals I had during the off-season".
