Flu Season Is Picking Up. Here's How Many People Have Already Gotten Sick
The department in its weekly influenza reportFriday for the week ending January 5 says three of the people who died were over 65 and one was between ages 50 and 64.
Flu season is in full swing in the Hudson Valley, with dozens of reported cases now being treated by doctors in the area.
The Alabama Department of Public Health reports that almost every county in the state is experiencing significant flu activity. "It also would very likely be a much more effective vaccine than the ones we have to make each year, hoping that we guess accurately as to what the influenza virus that season will be". Almost all of the pediatric illnesses are linked to H1N1.
"Diagnosed cases are on the decline, a bit earlier in the season than recent years", said Gesell.
Smaller provinces do keep count, although official numbers typically only capture a subset of flu cases. The vaccine can be life-saving for children, and may reduce the severity of the illness in people who got the vaccine but still got sick. New Brunswick is aware of four such cases, Manitoba has logged five and Alberta has recorded 17.
It's the peak of the flu season and Interior Health is making another push for vaccinations.
Normally, he would advise parents of children with run-of-the-mill flu symptoms to treat them at home with rest, fluids and over-the-counter medications to control fever. Seasonal flu epidemics occur yearly during the colder months.
"We expect an outbreak in this area", Frame said. "This year's vaccine does cover the type A virus, H1N1". "They don't have the ability and capacity to generate enough oxygen for the rest of the body to survive the infection", Givelichian said.
Doctors say that pregnant women are also at a high risk for flu complications. Of the 156 patients who have been admitted to hospital in the province this season - 27 of them to the intensive-care unit - a "large proportion", have not been immunized, she added.
And in Saskatchewan, public health officials are pleading with parents to get their children vaccinated after influenza killed three unvaccinated preschoolers in the province.

Sony was definitely ahead of the curve but the service offers older games that invariably have performance issues. Though Amazon declined to comment, the project would further build on past efforts to support game developers.
