White Supremacist Rep. Steve King Wonders Why Being White Supremacist Is Offensive

U.S. Congressman Steve King Twitter

Republican Rep. Steve King - who has always been a target for criticism because of his public comments on race and immigration - rejected Thursday being labeled a white nationalist, following bipartisan outrage for comments he made appearing to lament that white supremacist comments are considered offensive.

"The rationale is that if infidels are eating this pork, they aren't eating it, so as long as they're preparing this pork for infidels, it helps send 'em to hell and it'll make Allah happy", King said on the radio in June.

The Times interviewed King for a story that delved into his past outspoken comments and views on immigration and race.

It's not the first time some Republicans have denounced King, nor the first time King has said his intent is to defend "Western civilization".

"They've made it clear that they want nothing less than to raise taxes to historic levels, ignore the rule of law and undo the successes made by President Trump", Feenstra said.

The comments set off a firestorm of attacks on the congressman online, including from one of the top-ranking Republicans in the US House, Rep. Liz Cheney. America's values are expressed in our founding documents, they are attainable by everyone and we take pride that people of all races, religions, and creeds from around the globe aspire to achieve them. Under any fair political definition, I am simply a Nationalist, ' he continued.

"I reject those labels and the evil ideology that they define", wrote King.

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, called for the House to formally censure King "for his racists remarks".

In a sharply worded statement (via Ashley Killough of CNN), McCarthy condemned King's remarks. "We must stand up against white supremacy and hate in all forms, and I strongly condemn this behavior".

Iowa Congressman Steve King is once again seeking to distance himself from his own words as fellow Republicans in Congress accuse of him of making more racist comments.

He drew a potentially serious primary challenger this year in Iowa Republican state Sen.
