Alex De Minaur celebrates. More
De Minaur claimed his first ATP title on Saturday night at the Sydney International beating Italian Andrea Seppi 7-5, 7-6.
Forced to win through his semi-final on Saturday afternoon against Gilles Simon after rain washed out play on Friday night, de Minaur returned to the court six hours later for a gutsy straight-sets win over Seppi.
De Minaur was drawn on the bottom half of the schedule, the side of which all matches are set for Monday.
Earlier in the evening, Ash Barty went down in three sets to Czech Petra Kvitova in a 1-6 7-5 7-6 (7-3) thriller Sydney International final.
The last Australian man to make the men's singles final was Lleyton Hewitt, who lost to Marat Safin in 2005, but De Minaur felt there was no added pressure on him to end the long drought.
"It would be insane", de Minaur said earlier this week of the potential of claiming his first title in Sydney.
He staved off four break points to serve out the first set and completed the win by reeling off four games in succession.
Barty led the deciding set 3-0 before Kvitova began a comeback to win her 26th WTA title.
Kenin now proceeds to Melbourne where she will play Russian qualifier Veronika Kudermetova in round one of the Australian Open.
The Australian has a winning record over Simon, having beaten him in their only match up in Tokyo previous year. "I thought that I had to be really tough today", de Minaur said.
"It's never easy coming out and playing a fellow Australian teammate and a guy that I have grown up with, someone that I have looked up to as an older brother, ' de Minaur said".
"I'm really happy to have won".
"But this is what I do the hard work for, to go out there and back it up". I feel like I'm playing great tennis.
The talented young Australian player claimed the feat after losing two ATP finals past year: the Sydney, and Washington opens, in addition to the 2018 Next Generation ATP Finals in the Italian city of Milan.
Moving the Australian's match to Tuesday would have meant that the victor between he and Sousa would have been forced to play two days straight in Melbourne.

A picture of an egg just changed that
I'm gonna try and get back to as many of you as possible. "Take that little egg", she captioned the hilarious video. Only time will tell how many more world records will be bested by an egg.
