Parton received the Recording Academy's "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2011.

Miley Cyrus and her godmother Dolly Parton performed "Jolene" live and it was everything these fans could have dreamt it would be.

For the finale, all of the performers came back to sing their hearts out to Parton's classic hit, "9 to 5".

Parton, a native of Tennessee, won her first Grammy in 1978.

Parton, 73, also appeared to touch on some of the concerns of the #MeToo movement and sexual misconduct in entertainment and other industries, when she described entering the music business when it was a "man's world". "We want to be like you when we grow up".

Janelle Monae channeled some Prince and melded it with alien flair on "Make Me Feel", which only underlined the power of her latest album, "Dirty Computer".

In her acceptance speech, she said: "I have worked with so many wonderful men".

Performing during the evening in Parton's honor are: Leon Bridges, Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood, Miley Cyrus, Lauren Daigle, Vince Gill, Don Henley, Norah Jones, Shawn Mendes, Kacey Musgraves, Willie Nelson, Katy Perry, Linda Perry, P!NK, Mark Ronson, Mavis Staples, Chris Stapleton and newly-announced performers Jennifer Nettles, Brandi Carlile, Margo Price, Yolanda Adams, Cam, and Jon Batiste. While they were singing, Dolly Parton came out and joined them. "You're not personally involved, but you still get off on it".

A tribute was paid to Dolly Parton in honor of her newly awarded accolade during a gala event at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Friday's gala raised 6.7 million US dollars for MusiCares, Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow told the audience.
