Grammys 2019: They wore that? Fashions and photos from the red carpet

Grammys preview: Vince Gill, Charlie Wilson, St. Vincent and more among artists with Oklahoma ties nominated for Grammy Awards

Best new artist Alessia Cara was the only woman to receive her own award during the telecast, and Lorde, the sole woman to earn an album of the year nomination, was not invited to perform her own music. This year, 15 women are nominated in the big four categories, including Gaga, Chloe x Halle, Carlile, Janelle Monae, and Cardi B.

R&B singer Alicia Keys hosts a female-flavored Grammy Awards show on Sunday featuring performances by Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Diana Ross and Dolly Parton, but which risks being overshadowed by the absence of some of music's most influential stars.

The three-and-a-half hour extravaganza will feature performances from nominees Chloe X Halle, Grammy-winner Lady Gaga (choosing this over the Bafta film awards), fellow victor Mark Ronson and Grammy nominee Travis Scott fresh off his performance at Super Bowl LIII.

Brandi Carlile, the folk singer nominated for six Grammys including album, song and record of the year, looked to Monae and said: "Girl, I would vote you into presidency". Kendrick Lamar leads with eight nominations, followed by Drake with seven and Brandi Carlile with six.

Ariana Grande also won her first Grammy in the same week that she publicly blasted Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich and accused him of lying about why she was no longer performing at the show.

When asked about the lack of women in the top categories at the 2018 Grammys, Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow said women need to "step up". "Thank you @RecordingAcad #Grammys #Grammy and my co-writers and Bradley I love you so much thank you", the pop star wrote Sunday night before the show.

It's nearly time for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards!

"I've got nothing to say, I'm speechless", she said. He later acknowledged that it was a "poor choice of words", and his much-criticized remarks forced the academy to launch a new task force focused on inclusion and diversity.

Grande is nominated for two awards and could miss the chance to give a speech onstage if she wins.

Taylor Swift, who has just one nod for her best-selling 2017 album "Reputation", is filming in London. Fifteen-time Grammy victor Alicia Keys will be the first woman to host the ceremony in over a decade.

Women were strongly represented at this year's Grammys.

Grande, who pulled out of a planned performance at the ceremony, received best pop album for Sweetener - her first ever Grammy Award. Yolanda Adams, Fantasia and Andra Day will honor the late Aretha Franklin with a performance.
