Grammys the latest casualty of this tumultuous award season

Grammys the latest casualty of this tumultuous award season

The song from "A Star Is Born", co-written by Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt and Anthony Rossomando, is nominated for an Oscar and also won at the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice Movie Awards and the Satellite Awards.

Their absence was seen as a snub of an awards show that has often shut hip-hop artists out of its top prizes, despite rap's dominance as the biggest music genre in the United States.

In addition to presenting at this year's show - a historic first for a Korean pop group - BTS' album, Love Yourself: Tear, was also nominated for Best Recording Package.

But the Grammys are just the latest accomplishment for the Korean boy band this year.

The track will compete for more Grammys, including song of the year, record of the year and best pop duo/group performance. Best new artist Alessia Cara was the only woman to receive her own award during the telecast, and Lorde, the sole woman to earn an album of the year nomination, was not invited to perform her own music.

"I'm not gonna be able to wear any makeup tonight", she tweeted.

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards air Sunday evening on CBS, featuring guest performers, celebrity presenters and nominees including Record of the Year contenders such as "I Like It", "The Joke", "This Is America", "God's Plan", "Shallow", "All the Stars", "Rockstar" and "The Middle".

Women are hoping to get their due after the head of the Recording Academy - which includes more than 13,000 music professionals - told them past year to "step up" if they wanted to do better on Grammys night. She responded on Twitter and said she "can pull together a performance over night and you know that, Ken".

Gaga, Carlile, Monae, Cardi B and Musgraves are all due to take the stage. The performance definitely feels like a statement, even though the set (which, in a pre-show interview with Ryan Seacrest, Cabello said was supposed to evoke a family home - her grandmother's, I think) felt a little Broadway.

Ariana Grande has said no thanks to the Grammy Awards.

This year's show exhibits some efforts to combat these diversity issues - the academy, which The Times reported has invited 900 new members to vote, expanded major categories from five to eight nominees. "Thank you so much", Grande tweeted.

There will also be a tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, who died last August.
