Golf: Hailstorm causes final round delay at Pebble Beach Pro-Am

California Hailstorm Delays Final Round of Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament

Phil Mickelson reflects on a record-equalling fifth AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and praises Paul Casey's decision to take the tournament to a fifth day.

CBS will provide live coverage of the event via its website, with coverage starting at 11 a.m. ET and continuing until play is finished.

Nobody has ever won a major championship at the age Mickelson is at now, but then again, not too many players have had the confidence to play two holes essentially blindfolded - as he wanted to do to finish this off Sunday night instead of Monday morning.

Casey was at 15 under, tied with Scott Stallings, who closed with a 66.

"So at the end of previous year, even though I played poorly, I had something happen where it seemed like overnight - it had really been in the works - where my driver speed shot up 5, 6 miles an hour, which rarely ever happens to anybody, let alone somebody in their late 40s", he said. Casey and FedEx executive Don Colleran had a one-shot lead in the pro-am. Along with five titles at Pebble Beach, he ties Woods and Billy Casper - all three native Californians - with his 14th career victory in the Golden State.

Sam Saunders, whose grandfather Arnold Palmer was among the Pebble Beach owners, scooped up hail and tossed it like a snowball.

His first one also was a Monday finish, when players returned in August - more than six months later - to finish the third round of the weather-plagued tournament to make it official.

Mickelson was standing on the 17th tee when he heard the horn sound to stop play, and he shook his head.

With light fading, Mickelson was keen to finish the round, saying: "I can see fine" but England's Casey opted not to putt on the 16th.

Hail covers the second green of the Pebble Beach Golf Links during the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament on Sunday, February 10, 2019, in Pebble Beach, California.

Golfers, caddies and spectators raced for cover Sunday when hail began to pelt the course at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. One drive into the ocean and a dispute over the "point of entry" could easy have ensued.

But the final day, and all week, was about the ageless Mickelson.

He just didn't want to stay another day. This morning we came out and the greens were much better.

"I get where Paul is coming from", Mickelson said.

'He's a good guy and I enjoy our friendship. The challenge is getting myself to play my best.

Australian Jason Day and Si Woo Kim, of South Korea, were in the clubhouse on 13 under.
