Trudeau says Wilson-Raybould reminded him of a conversation they had last fall, in which he says he told her it was entirely up to her as attorney general to decide whether to instruct the director of public prosecutions to negotiate a remediation agreement with SNC-Lavalin over its dealings in Libya, thereby avoiding a criminal trial.

When Wilson-Raybould refused to ask federal prosecutors to make the non-prosecution deal with SNC-Lavalin in December, according to the Globe and Mail, Trudeau essentially fired her, leaving her to wash up at Veterans Affairs, a significant demotion.

"This is an issue that has been much talked about over the past few days and I think it's extremely important that Canadians can continue to have confidence in our system".

The Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner also announced on Monday that he has launched an investigation in the case.

"I have reason to believe that a possible contravention of section 9 may have occurred", Dion wrote in a letter to NDP MPs Nathan Cullen and Charlie Angus, who filed the complaint.

"I respect her view that due to privilege she can not comment or add on matters recently before the media", Trudeau said at the time.

"We spoke about our shared goals for our country and for this government", he said, adding that her "presence in cabinet should actually speak for itself".

"We urge Mr. Trudeau's team to stop trying to discredit Ms. Wilson-Raybould and to commit to fully cooperate with the Ethic Commissioner's investigation".

This renewed calls for the House of Commons Justice Committee to conduct a study on the matter.

During a tour of the Conrad rental housing development in Vancouver, Justin Trudeau addressed the political interference allegations surrounding the Prime Minister's Office and SNC-Lavalin.

Shortly after the Globe and Mail report, the Prime Minister denied the allegations, calling the story false.

Trudeau moved Wilson-Raybould to the veterans affairs portfolio in January.
