Dua Lipa Receives Grammy Award For Best New Artist

Dua Lipa Receives Grammy Award For Best New Artist

"I want to say a really big thank you to the fans, who have allowed me to be the best version of myself", she said, before later touching on her own climb to the top.

Along with her best new artist win, Dua Lipa also took home the award for dance recording.

Last year's Best New Artist victor was Alessia Cara, who presented Lipa with her award tonight.

Lipa continued, thanking her team, before sending a message to those who may feel insecure due to their different stories, backgrounds or names.

When she accepted the latter, Dua Lipa used her acceptance speech to call out a remark made in 2018 by Recording Academy president Neil Portnow. Her speech only got more inspirational from there. "I really believe in it, and I believe in you". The 23-year-old has already collaborated with artists including Diplo and Calvin Harris and Mark Ronson's Silk City. Her 2017 single, "New Rules", topped the charts in England and hit No. 6 in the United States.

From so-tall-they're-practically-pants boots to a new obsession with giant fluffy hats, Dua Lipa has been serving us some serious looks this year.

Lipa beat out HER, Luke Combs, Bebe Rexha, Greta Van Fleet, Jorja Smith, Chloe X Halle, and Margo Price for the trophy.

She has said her second album will likely come out later this year and cites pop icon Prince and hip-hop pioneer Outkast as major influences.
