Seungri speaks to the media as he arrives for questioning over criminal allegations at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in Seoul

"I feel very sorry for causing concerns to the people and will faithfully undergo an investigation", Jung told reporters before entering the station.

Police said they were investigating allegations that the 28-year-old attempted to arrange illegal sexual services for his business investors.

Seungri is also said to have been part of a chat group where fellow singer, Jung Joon Young allegedly shared videos of 10 different women in sexual acts.

South Korean singer Jung Joon-young arrives for questioning on accusations of illicitly taping and sharing sex videos on social media, at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in Seoul, South Korea, March 14, 2019.

They include singer-songwriter and television personality Jung Joon-young, 30, who is at the centre of the filming allegations. He is scheduled to appear before the police this week for questioning into the suspicions.

Lawyers for Jung could not be reached for comment.

There were two other male artists in the chatroom, the Guardian reports, and secret footage of at least 10 women was shared by members.

Seungri, a member of popular boy group BIGBANG, appears at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on February 27, 2019, for questioning.

Mr Yong was the third K-pop idol to fall on his sword in a week.

Yong's agency, Around US Entertainment, said he would quit the boyband Highlight "to prevent the group's reputation from being damaged".

Lee Suh-yoon, a writer for the The Korea Times, a daily newspaper, also suggested that "these recurring outbursts of gender-related crimes can no longer be attributed to ethical lapses of a few select individuals, meaning it's time to point the finger at society, culture and an industry that overlooks and encourages such horrifying behaviour".

K-pop had largely escaped scandals as South Korea's anti-sexual harassment #MeToo movement ensnared political, sports, and other figures.

The focus on finding the winning song and dance formula came at the cost of the performers' "moral education", said entertainment commentator Ha Jae-keun, adding that many companies covered up problems until it was too late.

The K pop singer admitted to his crime and also announced through the medium of his entertainment agency that he is calling it quits to his singing career.

A petition calling on the president to crack down on predatory and corrupt practices the scandals have exposed has gathered more than 200,000 signatures. "I was a silent bystander about this severe issue where several more victims may have arisen due to my actions", he continued.

Another tweeted that they did not want to believe the accusation, adding: "I'm exhausted of all this and in pain".

"My friends told me that I should stop being a fan of K-pop", she said as she waited outside the company's office in Seoul, hoping to put her demand for answers to company officials.
