Patents from Google. discovered by Patently Mobile show a variety of rough designs for how a foldable device could work, with handsets folding in different ways. What's interesting is that the patent describes two methods of folding: a single fold that transforms the device into a clamshell, and a Z-fold that allows you to bend the phone at two places as shown in the diagram below.
"Like Apple with its iPhones, Google reportedly outsources manufacturing of the Pixel 3 to Foxconn, and both HTC and LG shared manufacturing duties on the Pixel 2 phones", the report said.
Newfangled gadgets have always been subject to all sorts of rumors and speculations, and foldable phones are no exception. That's not to so these patents couldn't be used for future phones, or that they don't help in the development of similar products, only that they don't guarantee such a device will ever be released.
